The Uzbek man, Rakhmat Akilov, suspected to have run over many people in Sweden’s Stockholm was chatting with his Islamic State handlers on WhatsApp moments after the attack. Details from his phone suggests he was already learning making bombs with instructions over the internet. He in fact had a bomb in the truck that ploughed into several people near a supermarket.
According to Expressen, he ended up pouring acetone over himself and got burns on both arms and legs. After the attack, he resumed the WhatsApp chat with his Islamic State handler.
“I ran over ten people,” Akilov wrote soon after the maniacal drive into people in Stockholm. The chat was in Russian.
Uzbekistan-born Rakhmat Akilov, 39, is arrested on suspicion of that terrorist act. His Islamic State handler is a Tajik man. Rakhmat Akilov, according to the transcript of the chat, asked his IS-handler, who goes under the pseudonym Abu Fatyma, how to make a bomb.
Screen shots of their conversation appeared on the IS Tajik community chat rooms at 3.20 pm on Friday. That was barely half an hour after the attack.
During the attack, Akilov was injured when he happened to pour acetone on himself in the truck. He suffered burn injuries in addition to impact injuries to both arms and legs. The injuries resulted in a blood trail, where police found his blood as far away as at Arlanda airport, where he had fled by train from Central Station.
